Happy June, everyone! I've got a short and sweet post for ya.
I have never been to a writing/blogging/book conference. Have you? I used to attend English teacher conferences back in the day, and I loved those. But now I'm super excited because I'm going to be attending BEA for a day next week (Tuesday - road trip up to NYC, woot!), and I'm also attending SCBWI the first weekend of August in L.A. with some of my beta partners, including YAtopia's Kelley Vitollo/Nyrae Dawn. Yay! I can't wait to meet people!
I'm wondering what to expect. Have you been to a writer's conference? What are the benefits and which conferences would you recommend? Any advice and recommendations would be appreciated!
Also, today is the last day to enter to win a copy of The Downside of Being Charlie.
Hugs,
Wendy

I blogged about a writer's conference last month. I think all conferences are different but some things are universal. http://comeoutwhenyourehappy.blogspot.com/2012/05/storymakers-12.html
ReplyDeleteCool. Thanks, Janice!
DeleteI don't have any conference advice to offer since I haven't yet been to one, but just wanted to pop in and say that I will be at the SCBWI in LA as well. Hope to meet you there!
ReplyDeleteYay, awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI've only been to one writer's conference and I loved it. I digned up to pitch to an editor and got a full MS request out of it, so that was great. There are so many networking opportunities, but then you also get to learn so much. I loved it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to go to one since as it keeps clashing with my son's footy.
ReplyDeleteI just posted about conferences too! I've never been, but I'm planning on attending the RWA Emerald City Writers Conference in October. They have a program for first timers where they show them around and help them get the most out of the conference experience. Very exciting.
ReplyDeleteAre you pitching anything while at these conferences?
