Excuse me...do you have any spare time?

If so, I'd really like to borrow it.

Do you ever feel like things are moving so fast and furious that you somehow misplaced a few of the hours in your day? It's been like that for me the past few days. There is a lot going on in the Kelley household that's making me wonder how I'm ever going to get anything done!

And when I do...I'm not only too exhausted to enjoy it, but I'm left scratching my head and wondering how I pulled it off.

I'm a stay at home mom. I have two little girls, a husband, kids' school, homework, house, extended family and now a little family emergency going on. Honestly, it's leaving me feeling pretty frazzled, both emotionally and physically. I have so many things I need to do, that I'm definitely not finding time for what I want to do. But even more, I'm not sure I can do all the need-to-dos either.

Like my post for example. Totally flying by the seat of my pants here. LOL. I forgot it's my blog day until I was about to climb into bed for the night. SO, here I am, winging it and sharing all my time management problems with you.

Sorry...I hope you don't feel cheated. LOL.

The thing is, I have some serious writing I need to get done. It's one of those need to do things, but also, I'm loving the story and I want to do it too! Lucky, right? Only that missing time is getting in the way.

SO, I'm asking YOUR advice. I know we're all busy out there. School, work, family, blogs, writing...the list goes so. I'm curious how you find the time to squeeze it all in? Any tricks I don't know about?

  1. You know what? Sometimes it just isn't going to be able to get done when we want it to. We have to prioritize, and family comes first. When emergencies happen we have to throw our whole time management routine out the window. But it's only temporary. (That's VERY hard to remember in the moment.)
You'll be back at it soon, Kelley! We're thinking about you in the meantime.
PS... I have no tricks to share, haha. I'm in the same boat as you most of the time, stealing moments for myself and my story whenever I can.

  2. It is very difficult to find time for my reading and blogging hobby. Family comes first so of course work is at the top of the list, I cannot provide for them without it. All my spare time is devoted to my little family and I love it. I have also learned that I need to take care of me and my sanity so I have FIND time to do this. Usually its waking up an hour before everyone else. Luckily I have a patient spouse :) I also carry a notebook and pen with me everywhere so that I can jot down ideas and inspiration when it strikes. You honestly never know when you will have five unusued minutes. Like a traffic jam or waiting for your kids at school. Or my fave, when the kids fall asleep in the car I pull into the driveway and stay in the warm cozy truck enjoying a little reading and writing.

Good luck, I hope things slow down for you. Don't forget to enjoy your journey, one day you will miss all this chaos.

  3. Wendy, yep, family always comes first. It's so hard to remember things will slow down and get better. Sigh... I've never been the most patient person. lol

  4. Kjovus,
You brought up an good point. It's important to make sure to enjoy the journey. Which I do so when things are just too crazy, I need to remind myself its okay not to do EVERYTHING all the time, because I want to be sure I always enjoy it.

  5. Kelley- Soooo sorry for the family crisis:( I hope you can find time to write-I know when we were going through chemo w/ our little one, writing is was kept me sane. Bless your heart.

If I don't make time to write, it won't get done--i have to schedule it in-sometimes with my husband! But right now, I get up 2 hrs before the kids do & it's the best time for me--those early hrs are magic. Other than that, I can only suggest ditching the housework-it works great for me!!!

  6. Every time I get a small "chore" done, I reward myself with writing time. Also, if I really want to write and I have nothing but disaster around me, I set the timer for ten minutes and frantically clean. Then I sit at my laptop for a while...

Good Luck. I wish all the time that I could go without sleep the way I used to when I was a teenager.

  7. Kelley, I'm so with you. Ugh, if only we could manufacture hours.

  8. Time is elusive - never know where it goes! I didn't realize how much time a blog could take, I don't know where some people find the time to do all their things - but I tend to take mine from the night and go without enough sleep. Otherwise, I take it from my housework time - my kids are bigger now and so they don't care or notice if the dishes are not done each day and they are thrilled when we have fast food because I was reading instead of cooking! Good luck - if only there were more hours in each day or maybe a store where you could buy minutes like they have for those track phones! Happy reading, happy blogging -
