In a romantic retelling of Jack and the Beanstalk, Remi compels people by singing, but her mother forces her to use this ability by binding her soul into a harp.
There was a fight in the halls, right outside the principal’s office. Two stupid boys pummeling each other over something stupid. At least I assumed it was something stupid because they were stupid. If they had any brain cells worthy of the name, they would have picked a better spot to fight and I would have been able to get to class on time. I hated being tardy—it made me so conspicuous.
I sighed. Stupid high school boys. They were all the same. They all thought they were so tough and so bad. If they really wanted to see bad, they should meet my mother. She would have made them wet themselves out of fear.
I tried to push my way through the crowd, but more and more people kept shoving their way in, hoping to get a better view of the action. Not that there was much of that.
I love a good retelling (and what a great title). Five body shots.
